The law regulates how people live together, and people also need language to regulate how they live together. As a legal translator and interpreter, I work at the interface of language and law.

The translation of legal texts poses special challenges to translators. Legal texts are written in a specific legal language based on the relevant legal system. There can be big differences between the legal systems of individual countries.

High-quality legal translation not only requires excellent language and translation skills, but also comprehensive knowledge of the different legal systems and the legal terminology inherent in them.

What is important is to transfer the meaning of the text into the other language.

Therefore, legal translation requires, on the one hand, thorough understanding of the text in the source language and, on the other hand, careful consideration of terms as well as frequent explanations and paraphrasing in the target language.
